Life with the Band---

Evan's Diary of the last few performances:

evan Z "Life as sound/stage slave-labor for the band has its ups and downs...The upside is, I have always been fascinated by the technology behind the smoke and mirrors of rock & roll...the down side is, this band is slowly sucking the power of life right out of me."

The band was in total sync this weekend and the crowd seemed to enjoy them---clapping enthusiastically with a 'WHOO!' here and there. I'm used to working fast, with time on a budget, and being tired from carrying amps and drum kits so to be honest I never dance---I try to drink less-but I usually end up drinking more as I get hypnotized watching the band with a beer in hand. The tangible pressure builds up in the air---I feel the energy---but I am usually at peace with the musical tension the Band is evoking---totally laid back. For some reason this weekend was different---I really cut loose---this weekend I was indescribably wacky. I was a bit tipsy by the end of the night and I remember dancing around a lot---doing some wicked dance moves.

What a great weekend with the band...another weekend of 3 great shows! We met a bunch of new people--people really love this band, and who can blame them--it's an awesome way to spend my days off from school, to say the very least. I can't believe that this is all actually happening--but I'm sure most people would feel the same in the same situation. I see this as the beginning of an awesome life of being a serious soundmixer to-many serious rock stars. Today's incredible afternoon show brought sunshine and joy. It was an awesome afternoon. It is always madness, playing afternoon shows the day after 2 evening gigs in a row--especially when you wake up late and still have a thousand things to get ready. The band is hard rocking itself-straight to hell, that's for sure--much love to everyone who came to the show.

This show was outstanding to watch because the band always gel together on stage they never  just go through the motions. I like to witness great musicianship…It was like ZZ Top continue to exist in their substitute, Sharp DreZZed man. The band always performs with a fierce confidence. Anyway, the show was an extremely awesome entertainment experience. Vance was at his best vocally--he loves all the fan's in the audience-or was it maybe just one person in particular?

Tonight I was fortunate to witness the extraordinary musicianship of this band. Their melodic richness and dynamic range of emotional intensity not only entertained the audience it was uplifting. These guys are truly one with their instruments and their music flows very naturally......like beer to my mouth.

So far, it's been incredible, totally amazing, excellent--seriously with a super enthusiastic reception from local musicians, & our fans…It was a great long weekend...exhausting, depressing, enlightening, and exhilarating. The Band totally focused on the ZZ Top Texas sound…rocked on, unfazed. I however, am feeling very tired but good. Everyone had a lot of fun including me. These venues we play are such great places for musicians. Now I we just have to rest up for the ensuing "madness" of next weekend's gigs.
